Dana Altman and his Oregon Ducks staff added a shotblocker and rebounder for the future with the commitment this afternoon from 6-8 combo forward Jordan Bell from Long Beach, CA Poly at a press conference at the school this afternoon.

“I’m going to play my college basketball at Oregon,” Bell annouunced. ” I feel it is the right fit for me.”

Bell who has been compared in some ways to Dennis Rodman because of his ability to defend both forward spots as well as the post, rebound with great length and flat out run the floor so that bigs just can’t keep up. Unlike Rodman he is already a solid free throw shooter, but he like ROdman will have to build his game facing the hoop in the future.

I spoke with him at a fall Pangos event and this stellar athlete wants to become a player and knows that with work that skills plus his athletic gifts can make him an intriguing prospect and a tough talent to handle in the Pac 12. Look for him to develop into a potential NBA draftee under Altman’s tutelage.

He chose Oregon over Connecticut and Auburn, but had interest from Memphis, Nevada, Texas, USC, and Washington.

He joins twins Tyree Robinson and Tyrell Robinson, who will bth play football as well as basketball, in the Ducks Class of 2013.
